The Albion Park Harness Racing Club will host the opening leg of the 2012/13 Grand Circuit with the Group 1 $200,000 Garrards Queensland Pacing Championship on October 20.
The Grand Circuit is a series for the elite pacers in the southern hemisphere and a quick scan of the honour roll features some of the greatest names of all time including the recently champion Blacks A Fake who scored back to back victories in 2008/09.
Team McCarthy has enjoyed considerable success in the QPC including success last season with world champion Mr Feelgood, and the stable will be represented again this year.
Big name stars will be in action in the 2680m event while other features on the program will include the Tri Club Challenge Final plus the Hal Thomas Claiming Series Final.
The night will coincide with a Racino Race Night, a theme night filled with great entertainment and free gaming with funny money.
The Club will conduct Racino Race night’s on the third Saturday of each month while the Country Fair race meetings will be staged on the first Saturday of each month.
The first Country Fair meeting was held last weekend as part of the Be Good Johnny Sprint race night which featured free carnival rides, face painting, horse exhibitions plus much more for the entire family to enjoy.
Popular Monday afternoon racing has returned during the month of October and again, nominations have been strong while high turnover is a bonus for the industry.
The Monday circuit highlights the need for these types of meetings to be conducted and Club Chairman Kevin Seymour is also keen to assist by offering gifts to placegetters of each Monday meeting staged.
Last week, the Club handed out bags of horse feed and this will be repeated at the upcoming meetings on October 15, 22 and 29th.
In total, 48 bags of racehorse feed have and will be donated. One of the Club’s valued sponsors, Horsepower, is also set to come on board to support this initiative.
The October 29 meeting will see the BOTRA bonus initiated, with horse feed doubled if the placegetters are or become a member.
Kevin and Kay Seymour recognise that the vast majority of stakeholders are struggling following tough times for the industry, but the future appears brighter with initiatives such as the Monday gift promotion.
Contact Ross Dowd (Chief Executive) at the Club on 07 3262 2577 if you seek any further information regarding the upcoming promotions.
